Core Area of Intervention

Women Empowerment

Women Empowerment refers to strengthening the women socially, economically and educationally. It refers to an empowerment where there is no gender biasness and women have equal rights in community, workplaces and society.

It is important to mention here that, during seven decades of independence, women in India have made a considerable progress in almost every sphere of life. Also, many social, economic and political provisions were incorporated in the Indian Constitution, for the protection and empowerment of women, based on the idea championed by our founding father. But due to deep rooted patriarchal mentality in the Indian society, women are still victimized, humiliated, tortured, exploited and subjected to discrimination in the social, economic and educational field.

Keeping the above situation in mind, AFD considered women protection and empowerment as important issues of work.

Child Protection and Development

Violence against children is all too often unseen, unheard and under reported, said UNICEF India today.
Child Protection refer to prevention and responding to violence, exploitation and abuse against children, It includes protection of children from commercial sexual exploitation, trafficking, child  labour and harmful traditional practices such as child marriage.

It is important to protect children against any unwarranted situation so that children’s right to survival, development and well being is ensured. As the members of civil society, it is our duty to take child protection issues on priority basis. With growing urbanization, globalization, privatization and industrialization the protection of children has become a issue of great concern.  There are umpteen number of studies, which show that children of our nation are in danger and it will jeopardize the nation development if child protection issue is not taken on urgency basis.

AFD believes that defending the rights of the children will ultimately help in building the nation and bright future of the country. Hence, AFD consider child protection and development as one of the very important area for nation building.

Community Development

Community Development is a process whereby community members come together to ponder over their problems, find solutions and take collective action to resolve the problems commonly faced by them.

Due to fast urbanization, the migration of people from rural to urban areas is taking place rapidly that has been resulting into the creation of slum and resettlement colonies at a very fast pace. These slum and resettlement colonies have been lacking basic facilities such as sanitation, clean drinking water, good quality roads, poor infrastructure etc. One can also find the problems such as low education level, religious and regional conflict, youth unrest etc. In such areas, women and children face double whammy as they face atrocities and their grievances are given not due attention.

Therefore, AFD intervention targets on multiple issues of the community in general and the women and children issues in particular.

Donation to AFD are Tax exempted under Section 80-G of the Income Tax Act.
